I’m Martijn Rubbrecht, a Belgian DJ with more than 15 years of experience. I first got behind the decks in the summer of 2008, at the age of 14.
Why I DJ
To me, music has always been more than sound. I believe music connects people in a unique way. It goes beyond language, age and background. At a certain moment a dance floor is no longer a collection of individuals, but one crowd that feels and experiences the same thing together.
Think of the best concert you’ve ever been to. What a feeling to be part of that crowd, right? Creating that sense of unity: that is why I DJ.
The music I play
I’m an open format DJ. Request a track from any genre, and I’ll try to mix it in. If I had to name one central theme, it would be dance music: that genre is the glue that ties everything together.
Milestones
- 2008
First time behind a DJ set, at the age of 14.
- 2010
Featured in Het Belang van Limburg for “Beat mixing for beginners” in Hasselt.
- 2011
Called “the young mix prodigy” by DJ Mania. Plays NOA festival.
- 2012
Wins My Set Rules on JIM TV, sharing the stage with Charlotte de Witte, among others.
- Now
More than 100 weddings, and corporate events for brands such as Scania, Lancôme and KRC Genk.
Beyond the decks
I was born and raised in Hasselt and now live in Bilzen.
DJing is my side business. My main job is product owner / business analyst at UMP. I hold a master’s degree in industrial engineering (KU Leuven) and a master’s in management (UHasselt).
For me it’s the ideal mix: a stable income from my main job, and full freedom in my side business.
