Frequently asked questions

Everything about genres, equipment, booking and payment. Can’t find your question?

Which genres do you play?

I’m an open format DJ: I play many genres and your wishes come first. Disco, 80s pop, R&B, hip-hop, house, techno, 90s classics, oldies… I don’t shy away from any genre, as long as it fits the mood. If I had to pick one common thread, it would be dance music: that is the glue that ties everything together.

Do you work with a fixed setlist?

No. I choose the tracks during the evening itself, so the music always matches the party and the moment. We go through your music wishes and must-plays beforehand.

Do you bring equipment?

At private parties I almost always bring my own mixer. It has the most common audio connections, so almost any sound system can be connected.

Lighting and sound are not included. Some venues have these in-house; otherwise Joost Rubbrecht Services & Solutions (JRSS) can provide them. Working with JRSS is not required.

At public events several DJs usually play one after another and share the decks. There the organisers provide the DJ equipment, often through a technical company that also handles lighting and sound.

What if you’re ill?

I have never cancelled because of illness. Should it ever happen, I call on my network and arrange a replacement. You won’t have to worry about it.

How long have you been a DJ?

I first got behind a DJ set in the summer of 2008, when I was 14. That makes more than 15 years of experience. Over the years I won several DJ contests, played at almost every party in and around Hasselt, and performed on several festival stages. Today I focus on weddings and corporate events.

What defines you as a DJ?

I like to keep the tempo up, make surprising transitions and keep the dance floor alive. Peaks and quieter moments are part of it, as long as it stays interesting and people don’t drift off to the side.

Most important of all? That at the end of the night you say: this was completely our party.

How does payment work?

Afterwards, through a digital invoice with a QR code. That way you don’t have to think about payment during the party.

Is DJing your main job?

No, DJing is my side business. My main job gives me a stable income, so I can take on every booking with full energy and attention.
